CLOSER THAN A BROTHER!
Proverbs 18:24 – One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (NIV)
A man was walking on long sticks which made him taller as the spectators cheered him. But suddenly, the comic man lost his balance and fell. What caught my attention was the fact that those who applauded him, quickly disappeared as he languished in pain!
The Holy Spirit began to compare the incidence, to human life. When all is rosy, people and friends will identify with you, but when the chips are down, families and followers disappear. For example, Peter denied Jesus in the time of trouble (Mark 14:30-72). Likewise, after Job lost everything, his wife advised him to ‘curse God and die’ (Job 2:7-10). No wonder, Proverbs 19:4 says:
‘Wealth brings many new friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend.’ (ESV)
Beloved, have you been dependent on a man and being disappointed? If yes! Don’t forget that man is limited (Psalms 60:11-12); instead, you should pray for good friends (Mark 2:1-12). More importantly, as seen in our Bible reading, there’s only one friend who can never abandon you even when your mother forsakes you (Isaiah 49:15-16). His name is Jesus! If you receive Him as your friend, He will dwell in your abode! (Revelation 3:20).
PRAYER
Hymn: What a Friend we have in Jesus — Joseph M. Scriven (1855)
1. Father, please be my friend. I will serve and obey You!
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Any power that wants to remove me from the gathering of achievers, scatter!
2. Lord! Rescue me from the grip of hell and death.
3. Father, please deliver Your people from the present-day terrors.
THE LORD SHALL GIVE YOU GOOD FRIENDS!
