BE A FOLLOWER
1 Corinthians 11:1
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ (KJV)
A member is one of the people attending a Church, while a follower serves and follows the teachings of another person. These definitions show the difference between a member and a follower. As Christians, we should decide whether we want to be mere associates or disciples of Christ. Hebrews 10:25 tells us never to forsake the assembly of the righteous. However, we can’t be an enduring ambassador of Christ with only a membership identity. It is important to move to the level of followership (discipleship).
Beloved, followership is a call to responsibility and obedience to command. When Jesus began to gather His disciples, He told Peter and Andrew, “Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.” The same thing was said to James and John, and they all left everything to follow Jesus (Matthew 4:18-22). After Christ had called the twelve, he gave them power and authority to drive out demons and cure diseases (Luke 9:1). This confirms that followership is a dutiful role that comes with power.
In today’s Bible reading, Paul, who is an addicted follower of Christ, charged us to imitate him. Despite his sufferings, Paul remained committed to God and was so anointed that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him healed the sick and drove out evil spirits (Acts 19:11-12). When you are a genuine God chaser, the same power vested in His disciples will follow you, and you will operate with proof. I encourage you to be an active follower of Christ and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in the area of service.
