ARE YOU SPIRITUALLY ALIVE?

Genesis 2:15-17 (17) – But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (NKJV)

There are three types of death. The natural — when one physically dies, through old age, sickness or accident. Another form of death is the second death — this applies to anyone that does not make it to eternity with God. The origin of the third type of death is traced to our Bible reading. There, God stated clearly to Adam and Eve that their disobedience would bring death to them. Therefore, as soon as they sinned, they were both naked and conscious of it. The first humans became different beings to what God initially planned and hid from their creator (Genesis 3:7-8). This separation from God is the spiritual disconnection (death).

“Spiritual death is when the living is cut-off from God.”

Romans 6:23 verifies that the repercussions of sin are death. Death here refers to the spiritual. For example, in Luke 15:32, the prodigal son was regarded as dead but deemed alive after his reunion with the father. Apostle Paul also confirmed that we become spiritually dead whenever we commit iniquity (Ephesians 2:1-5). He further mentioned that he once died too through sin (Romans 7:9-11).

Beloved, there are risks attached when we die spiritually. The first sign is the absence of God, and when this is the case, the devil takes charge. The second is the lack of spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12) and the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). The third is that it can lead to an untimely ‘natural death’ and eventual ‘second death’ (Revelation 20:15). However, the good news is that there is a way out. Accepting Christ, repentance, abiding in holiness, and a concrete relationship with God, which involve studying the word and praying (John 3:3), are the antidote to spiritual death.

PRAYER

Hymn: Softly and Tenderly, Jesus Is Calling – Will L. Thompson (1880)

1. Father, please forgive me (confess) and move me from death to life!

2. I refuse to be spiritually naked but fired up in God and His purpose for me.

(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)

1. Anything blocking my star from shinning, scatter!

2. Holy Spirit! Awake the giant in me, family, nation and the Church.

3. Father, I don’t want to be foolish, anymore. Please:

A. Let not my thoughts, mouth and actions bring my doom, in Jesus’ name.

B. Order my steps, in Jesus’ name.

C. Grant me timely wisdom and favour,

NO MORE SHAME!
