ARE YOU GREEDY?

Proverbs 15:27
Greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live. (NLT)

On honeymoon, a man drowned his wife because he wanted to inherit her multi-million dollar estate. The greedy man deliberately smashed giant holes on the yacht and jumped out to safety as the lady sunk. Gehazi, a servant to Elisha, is another example. Whenever Elisha was used by God to heal people, he never accepts money. As usual, he rejected Naaman’s gifts, but Gehazi coveted those gifts and secretly chased after Naaman. He then lied to Naaman to collect the presents.

On his return, Elisha who knew what he had done, questioned him and Gehazi lied yet again! Consequently, he, with his descendants, got cursed with Naaman’s leprosy (2 Kings 5:15-27). The pathetic side of Gehazi’s story is that his generations would have to suffer from his misdeed. No wonder, our Bible reading states that an entire family reaps the seed of one fellow’s greediness.

Beloved, do not terminate yours and the unborn’s destinies through covetousness because selfishness and an untamed hunger have no better ending than destruction. It has ruined the glory of nations. Therefore, we need to examine ourselves often to see if we have become desirous of another man’s possessions, lifestyle or spouse, etc. We must root out this terrible act because, among other things, the greedy will never make it to heaven (1 Corinthians 6:10). Be Born Again!
