ARE YOU DEEP-ROOTED?
John 15:1-8 (5) – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (NIV)
A man cut down some tree branches which sprouted into his compound. While pulling these branches, he discovered that they were not part of the tree. From a distance, they seemed to originate from the same source, but in essence, they are spiral plants. This story applies to believers because we must check if we are connected to Jesus or merely fulfilling tradition. As seen in our Bible reading, whenever we disconnect from God, we become fruitless and swayed by the devil.
2 Timothy 3:1-17 states that many will become religious so that they get carried away by routine and praises that come with their status with God. They will act as if they love, but inwardly, it is for a motive (Mark 12:30-31). Some profess Christ but do not acknowledge His supremacy because the place of the Holy Spirit has been substituted with human ideology. People now follow the man of God rather than the God of man. They exalt worldliness over the word; sin above sanctification, and prosperity as an alternative for power.
Beloved, as the tree branches, it’s easy to mix religiosity with genuine worship. A religious fellow can never please God because he is not subjected to the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14). But, indeed, we need the Spirit of Truth to challenge us lest we fall to flesh and self-glorification in the name of serving God. Therefore, get born again and of the Spirit! (John 3:1-21)
