Genesis 26:3-5 (3) – Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. (NIV)
Yesterday, we learnt how Isaac prospered in Gerar because he obeyed God’s instruction to stay and sow in the land during the famine. Today’s Bible reading confirms that the activation of the Lord’s goodness upon Isaac was based on Abraham’s record. Genesis 15:6 says, “Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” In the same way that righteousness exalts a nation, Abraham’s unwavering faith in God counted as righteousness and made him the father of nations (Proverbs 14:34).
The faith of our fathers and our trust in God can pave the way in our time. God is the keeper of covenants. Just as He remembered His promises to Abraham and blessed Isaac, He is bound to bless you. This is because anyone who believes in Jesus and puts their faith in God can also invoke the blessings of Abraham (Galatians 3:7, 14).
Beloved, if you are not yet born again, do it quickly to enjoy the dividends of the Abrahamic covenant. Afterwards, be led by the Holy Spirit to discern where and when to sow. The final step is to do the work! Despite God’s promise to activate the Abrahamic covenant in the life of Isaac, he did not relent. Rather, Isaac planted and reaped bountifully. If you are to prosper, you must work hard and diligently. By then, hardship and lack of direction will be far from you.
Hymn: Faith of Our Fathers – Frederick W. Faber (1849)
1. Holy Spirit, open my eyes to the reality of the Abrahamic covenant and blessings in my life.
1. With the help of the Holy Spirit, I receive the power to be diligent in my handiwork and business.
2. Holy Spirit, uproot the traces of aimlessness from my heart and give me the resources I need to excel!
YOU SHALL PROSPER
