A NEW SEASON OF LIGHT
John 12:42-46 (46) – I have come into the world as a light so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. (NIV)
When God created the earth, it was shapeless and covered with darkness. But at God’s command: “Let there be light”, darkness became night while light signifies the day (Genesis 1:1-5). David equated the night as a time of weeping and the day as a season of joy (Psalms 30:5). In the New Testament, Christ’s birth brought salvation (light) to humanity (Matthew 1:21-23). Jesus became the light that outshined darkness. He healed the sick, raised the dead, and set captives free (Acts 10:38). Above all, His death and resurrection eliminated the power of death and hell (Colossians 2:13-15).
Beloved, it is only Jesus who gives joy for sorrow and light over darkness. Regardless of your night times, with Christ, you begin a new day. Over the weekend, we fasted and prayed in the programme termed “A New Season”. Participants would discover that the sovereignty of Christ and the Holy Spirit was evident. This is because nothing can be done without God and believing in His Son. No wonder Jesus said in today’s Bible reading, no believer should reside in darkness. In other words, when you accept Christ and ‘believe’, you emerge as a light and a reflector of God’s glory to generations (Matthew 5:13-16).
Hymn: Near the Cross – Frances J. Crosby (1869)
1. Lord, open my eyes to see the power I possess as a child of light.
2. As I step out today, I decree forward ever, backward never!
1. Pray for restoration of joy and peace in lives, families, the Church, and nations.
2. Father, empower me with unshaken faith, boldness and utterances!
3. I decree! Affliction shall never rise again in the history of my existence (mention).
A NEW SEASON, INDEED!
