THE GARBAGE TRUCK
Luke 23:34 – Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice. (NLT)
Read: Luke 4:14-30, 23:1-56
A taxi driver almost hit a car, which suddenly stopped at the centre of the road. Despite being at fault, the car driver screamed offensive words at the cabman. But in order for peace to reign, the cabman smiled and waved at the enraged man. This gesture prompted the taxi passenger to ask why and how the driver was relaxed and welcoming, despite being offended.
The taxi driver responded by comparing the human mind to a garbage truck, which is filled with all kinds of dirt and life issues—battles with addictions, medical diagnosis, marital problems, economic challenges, and career frustrations. Many people express these internal matters through their actions. The man then advised that personal issues should never be allowed to spill out on others at home, work, Church, or even on the streets.
In today’s Bible reading, we learn about Jesus, who endured rejection from His own people, mockery from the Pharisees, and physical abuse prior to His crucifixion. However, what came out of His heart was love. Beloved, learn to stay calm and think of what Jesus would do when people or your circumstances become frustrating. There is a saying that “No one can insult you without your permission.” This is because when you allow insults to enter your heart, it will determine what flows from your mouth and reaction (Matthew 15:11-20). Life’s issues and trials are just 10%, but your response is 90%.
ACTION POINT
Avoid giving in to the devil’s strategy to frustrate you and cause you to behave offensively. Instead, cultivate a positive attitude guided by the Holy Spirit and extend an open mind to others while honouring God.

Hymn: More About Jesus – Eliza E. Hewitt (1887)
1. Father, please be my peace when the world is raging and make me an instrument of Your peace to reconcile the world to You.
2. Holy Spirit, rewrite the content in my heart and inspire my actions.
3. Father, make a public disgrace of my reproach and every relentless attack on my peace.
