TRAITS OF EXCELLENCE
Proverbs 22:29 – Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. (KJV)
Read: 1 Chronicles 12:32
More than ever, society and careers have become highly competitive. This is why the Bible text for today explains that diligence elevates an individual from the competitive level of commoners to the king’s court. Let’s use an example of when you decide to buy a durable car. You could go for any car. However, because you desire a vehicle with a strong and lasting engine, you have no choice but to buy a particular brand known for this set of qualities. The high-performance qualities are what stood out for the brand, giving it visibility.
In the same way, to stand out among millions of others locally or globally, you must be vastly unique and durable. Daniel 5:12 reveals that Daniel possessed an excellent spirit that made him individually visible and graced (favourable). Daniel could not have had this spirit if he was not diligent, because excellence is a product of hard work.
More so, as our scripture focus emphasises the significance of diligence, it is important to note that there is an element of diligence in enjoying grace and being unique in contemporary times. This diligence is the hard work put in to acquire the 8 traits of excellence listed below:
1. Thankfulness: live a life of praise to God while you appreciate and honour people.
2. Tenacity: determination to succeed against the odds and be effective on every task.
3. SWOT: know your strengths and weaknesses, including the opportunities in your specialisation and potential threats.
4. Respect: understand others’ perspectives and individual differences.
5. Communication: transmit ideas clearly, regardless of cultural background.
6. Sensitivity: take rest when due and separate emotions from decisions.
7. Knowledge and Time: be self-organised and seek relevant knowledge to stay on top of your tasks. This will help you discern seasons, knowing what should be done in time.
8. Take Responsibilities: take up challenges, embrace mistakes, and celebrate your success.
