SEEK KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Proverbs 4:7 – Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. (NKJV)
Read: Ecclesiastes 10:10
Knowledge is a fact gained about something through learning or experience. The knowledge acquired can illuminate potential when rightly understood and applied correctly. This proper application of knowledge is called “wisdom”. The role of “understanding” in this is that it helps transform knowledge into wisdom.
The wise King Solomon wrote the Bible reading for today to show that understanding is essential for wisdom. A lack of understanding lures one into assumptions, error, and unproductivity. For example, if you are given a chair to sit on, you will naturally feel comfortable sitting. But immediately after you are told that the chair is electrocuted, your understanding of the danger of electric shock triggers your instinct to stay clear. It is wisdom to protect yourself from death, but the process began first with understanding.
Beloved, I encourage you to seek knowledge and understanding. This is because they both lead to wisdom and profitability. However, it is God who gives the grace to gain knowledge and understanding that produces wisdom. Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” God speaks through the Bible and His Spirit, and knowledge develops as you feed on the Word while you grow experientially. Enrolling in relevant courses and making constructive connections can also provide knowledge about life and career.
The understanding aspect comes from the inspiration of God. Job 32:8 confirms that “it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding.” This means that the Holy Spirit is the custodian of understanding (application of knowledge), leading to wisdom.
This day, you are going to ask God that:
1. He will grant you the resources and capacity to acquire knowledge.
2. His Spirit rests upon you to impart you with grace to understand and make the right judgement.
3. He will make you sensitive enough to apply wisdom to every good work.
MIDNIGHT PRAYER
1. Spend quality time praying the above prayers and praying in the Holy Ghost.
