20 MINUTES
Luke 15:1-31 (5-6) – “And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ (NIV).
Read: 2 Corinthians 6:18
There was a story of a sheep that wandered away for six years. During its abscondment, the sheep mingled with other animals, especially the goats, with whom it ate from the bins. One day it was found unkept, with its wool covering its face. It took only 20 minutes for the shepherd to shave the sheep and return it to the pasture.
There are lessons to be learned here, mainly about the Father’s love. You can imagine how draining it can be to search for missing valuables without results. Similarly, the shepherd must have searched and waited persistently for years. What a great triumph it would be when the sheep were found. This brings to mind the parables of the lost sheep, coin, and prodigal son in today’s Bible reading. Jesus expressed the joy that fills the heart of a shepherd who finds his long-lost sheep.
Beloved, have you strayed from the path of righteousness to what seems to be smooth and cosy but leads to destruction? If yes or unsure! The Lord, in His mercy, is waiting and reaching out so that He may find you. There is more joy in heaven when a lost sinner repents. No matter how dirty and horrible your past is, it doesn’t matter when you turn to Christ’s saving grace. Just as the sheep in the opening story was restored within minutes, Jesus can give you a brand new life if you accept His invitation.
