SET YOUR MIND!
Colossians 3:1-2 (1) – Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. (NIV)
Read: 1 Samuel 17
British Derek Redmond’s quest for glory at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona was shortened when he tore his hamstring in the 400-metre relay. The remarkable aspect of this occurrence was the athlete’s unwavering perseverance. Derek was determined to cross the finish line, and despite the pain, his dad walked him through the finish line. His action that day inspired millions all over the globe.
This is similar to David’s gesture when he confronted Goliath. In 1 Samuel 17:26, David asked for the prize he would gain if he challenged the Philistine giant. The people responded, ‘The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel.’ (v. 25). David fixed his eyes on the prize but set his mind on God to liberate his compatriots from the imminent terror. Therefore, he was bold to declare to Goliath, ‘I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts’ (v. 45).
Beloved, when you face difficult times in your life’s journey, what you depend on is what either motivates and saves you or condemns you. David trusted the Lord, while Goliath kept faith in his physique and god. The outcome of the fight demonstrates that strength comes when you rely only on God because you need Him to scale through every hurdle in destiny. Moreover, as the key text for today admonishes, since you have been raised with Christ, keep your gaze on Him, like the British runner and David refused to quit. You will emerge stronger!
PRAYER
Hymn: Jesus Saves – Priscilla J. Owens (1882)
1. Father, for every challenge I am experiencing, please give me the grace to rise above it.
2. I decree today, Lord Jesus, that my mind relies on You. Please always direct my path.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Every force of mediocrity ruling over my life, lineage, career, and business—expire!
2. My family, the Church, friends, the nation, and I shall enjoy double victory and promotion.
3. Kindly pray for families and individuals facing turbulent times.
YOU SHALL NOT DROWN IN THE STORM!
