GET UNDERSTANDING!
Proverbs 4:7 – Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. (NKJV)

Knowledge is a fact gained about something through learning or experience. The knowledge acquired can illuminate great potential when understood and applied correctly. This proper application of knowledge is called “wisdom”. However, the role of “understanding” is crucial in this because it is what helps transform knowledge into wisdom.
The wise King Solomon wrote today’s Bible text to show that understanding is essential for wisdom. A lack of understanding lures one into assumptions, error, and unproductivity. For example, if you are given a chair to sit on, you will naturally feel comfortable sitting. But immediately after you are told that the chair is electrocuted, your understanding of the potential danger of electric shock triggers your instinct to stay clear. It is wisdom to protect yourself from death, but the process starts with understanding.
Beloved, be encouraged to get understanding because it leads to wisdom and profitability. However, it is God who gives the grace to gain the type of understanding that produces wisdom. Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” The understanding aspect comes from the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Job 32:8 confirms that “it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding.” This means that the Holy Spirit is the custodian of understanding, leading to the application of knowledge and the production of wisdom. Ask the Spirit of God to breathe on you, and you shall receive the grace!

1. Father, please grant me the resources and capacity to get understanding.
2. Holy Spirit, rest upon me and impart me with grace to understand and make the right decisions.
3. Father, make me sensitive enough to apply wisdom to every good work.

2. Lord Jesus! Help me not to see Your corrections and instructions as a punishment.
