“EVERYTHING I HAVE IS YOURS”
Galatians 4:7 – So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. (ESV)
Read: Luke 15
The story of the prodigal son is significant to the mystery of Christ’s kingdom and His mission of redemption. This is because, even though the prodigal boy lavished his inheritance, he was celebrated on his return home. Christ came for this purpose—to restore the lost.
Another important side of the prodigal son’s story is that of the elder brother, who protested against the extravagant celebration organised for his brother. The elder brother said to their father, “Look! All these years, I have been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!” (Luke 15:29-30)
Here is the father’s response: “My son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” (v 31-32).
What a powerful and reassuring statement from the dad, who is likened to God in this case. His words simply mean restoring the lost is much more vital because the saved already have access to the divine inheritance, as affirmed in the Bible text for today. The text reveals that the saved are sons who automatically possess what their father (God) owns. Thank God for the saved, but heaven rejoices better over every sinner who returns to Christ.
Beloved, as a genuinely saved Christian, make it a point of duty to bring in the prodigal sons. Perhaps you lack any necessities of life and of the spirit; ask of God because everything He has is yours! On the other hand, if you are still living in sin and guilt, repent and confess to Jesus; He will receive you and cleanse you from all iniquities.
