DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Isaiah 61:7 – Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours. (NIV)
Read: 2 Kings 2:1–25
When something is double, it is multiplied by two. It can refer to receiving a blessing or anointing twice. In 2 Kings 2:1–25, Elisha is told to stay back by his master, Elijah, who is about to leave the human scene. Elisha’s colleagues tried to wind him up because they thought he would be helpless. But Elisha didn’t stay behind; he followed Elijah until the master said, “Tell me what I can do for you.” That day, Elisha’s waiting earned him a double portion of Elijah’s anointing!
Beloved, are you in a similar circumstance? If yes, the question is if you can discern God’s move and hold on to His word, regardless of the distractions and mockery you face. Elisha didn’t allow his master’s demands or his colleagues’ mockery to get in his way. He was focused and eventually honoured by those who despised him. 2 Kings 2:15 says the men confirmed that the spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha, as they came to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.
Beloved, to enjoy double allocation of whatever great thing you desire, be ready to pay the price of waiting in the place of prayer, consecration, and discipline. The more scorn and challenges, the sweeter the glory. Today’s key text assures that every challenge encountered on your path in life will lead to multiplied blessings. It pays to remain on God’s side, and as the year rolls by, ask God for your needs in doubles. It will be done!
