THE DANGERS OF RICHES
Proverbs 28:6 – Better the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are perverse. (NIV)
Read: Proverbs 19:4
It is common knowledge that people are quick to disregard the poor and show respect to the wealthy. However, the truth is the poor may enter Heaven more easily than the wealthy, who are susceptible to mundane things and influences that could lure them into sin.
In Matthew 19:16-24, there was a wealthy man who approached Jesus because he craved eternal life. But Christ told him to sell his possessions in order to bless the poor and be committed to God. The Bible revealed that the rich man who needed to use his wealth for God’s kingdom left in sorrow. Therefore, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Beloved, money and possessions are beneficial, but both have the tendency to lure you away from God. Likewise, being poor does not grant an automatic ticket to Heaven; instead, what qualifies you for eternity with God is walking blameless. This is the emphasis of today’s Bible text: Whether you are wealthy or needy, righteousness is what counts in God’s sight. Righteousness means living right before the Lord, and this includes using your substance according to His will.
I encourage you to make God’s word your reality and live holy, using your possessions in a way that guarantees your eternal life. May the Lord grant you deeper understanding!
