THE FROG
Proverbs 14:12 – There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. (NIV)
Read: Romans 6:23
When a frog is kept in a container with water, as soon as the water is heated, the toad can adjust its body to the rising temperature. When the water is about to reach boiling point, the frog will discover that it cannot cope anymore. It would attempt to jump out of the water, but it would be too late because the frog has wasted its strength trying to conform to the increasing temperature. Consequently, the frog dies.
What killed the frog was not the hot water but the indecision on when to escape from the water. As humans, in a quest to fulfil our purpose, we may face hurdles that require us to make adjustments, but we must discern when to adapt and when to move. There are situations when we need to stand tall. Proverbs 24:10 says, “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.” In times of fear, affliction, and occurrences that challenge our faith, we should stick with God because in Him lies the victory.
There are also circumstances similar to the case of the frog where we should flee. Sin is an example! As seen in today’s key text, sin and self-indulgence are enticing, but their end is destruction. We must quit any unholy actions or relationships that drain us morally, spiritually, mentally, or financially. More importantly, be prayerful and study the Word of God. Ask the Holy Spirit for true revelation and jump out of the boiling water while you still have the energy.
