FRUITFULNESS (Part 10)
Philippians 2:5 – Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, (NKJV)
Read: Philippians 2:5-11, Galatians 5:22-23
A fruit is a replica and an extension of its source. For example, you can neither harvest corn from planting an orange seed nor derive an apple from a coconut tree. Jesus explained in Matthew 7:16-20 that you will know the people by what they do. Grapes do not come from thorn bushes, and figs do not come from thorny weeds. In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit and cannot yield anything good. Every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
In John 15:5-6, Christ further revealed that He is the vine, while whoever abides in Him are the branches, which can only produce righteous fruits. In other words, your fruits show if you are of Christ or the devil. As an extension of the fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23, Apostle Paul taught the Philippians the virtues expected of a child of God: being like-minded, having the same love in the oneness of spirit, and being of one mind. You should not act out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Instead, in humility, value others above yourselves (Philippians 2:2-3).
Beloved, Jesus was humble, like-minded and united with God. He loved even the worst offenders and was not selfish but cherished everybody. Paul affirmed in today’s Bible text that everyone in Christ must exude these kingdom virtues because this is how the world sees Jesus through you, as Heaven attests to your fruitfulness. This hour, you will examine yourself and your actions to determine whether you belong to the good tree and bear righteous fruits. If not, make amends and ask the Holy Spirit to help you daily so you are not cut off and thrown into the fire!
