FRUITFULNESS (Part 2)
Philippians 2:8-11 (8-9) – And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: (KJV)
Read: John 12:24, Revelation 1:18
In Part 1 of this series, we learnt that fruitfulness begins with planting seeds. The interred seed dies and emerges with life by bearing fruit. We then focused on how this process applies to the law of nature. However, today’s devotional will concentrate on the spiritual aspect. This is because, as 2 Corinthians 4:18 reveals, the unseen is greater than the seen, making fruitfulness in the spiritual dimension far more significant than in the physical.
Christ’s life and experience exemplify the spiritual process of attaining the highest level of fruitfulness. Despite being the Messiah, Jesus had to die on the cross to conquer death and ascend to glory. Colossians 2:14-15 provides evidence that Christ’s plunge into death triggered a spiritual metamorphosis into fruitfulness: He disarmed principalities and powers, publicly triumphing over them by taking possession of the keys of death and hell. The Bible reading for today further confirms that the dying of Jesus magnified His reach, presenting humanity with salvation and authority over every contrary power.
Beloved, to wield power and be more productive in God’s kingdom, you must first die. This death is about dying to sin and self, without which no one can be spiritually fruitful. Romans 6:11 says, “Consider yourselves to be dead to sin [and your relationship to it broken], but alive to God [in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus.” Therefore, ensure you are genuinely saved and allow the Holy Spirit to help you stay consciously dead to sinful tendencies because therein lies your lasting potency in the spirit.
