DO NOT JUDGE!
John 7:24 – Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly.” (NLT)
Read: Isaiah 11:1-5
A teenager travelling on a train with his dad suddenly screamed, “Dad! See, the skies are moving with us.” The father looked at the sky and smiled. The father’s soft reaction surprised a couple who observed the teenager’s strange behaviour. Their surprise is because they expected the man to be concerned about the teenager’s childish words. Again, the boy shouted, “Can’t you see? The trees are skidding, and the birds are running at us.” This time, the couple said to the dad, “Why not take your son to see a doctor?” The man replied, “Yes, we are just returning from the hospital. My son lost his sight in his childhood days and only regained it today”. The husband and wife immediately knew they were too quick to judge a matter they did not know.
Every human tends to have biased thoughts. Occasionally, we form opinions about people or issues quickly, only to discover that we were wrong in our assumptions. This is why the Bible text for today charges us never to make conclusions by mere observation but to look inward to discern the truth of the matter. The good news is that the Holy Spirit can help us make the right decisions and accurately judge a matter if we are sensitive to His leading.
Beloved, if you have been judging others as the couple did, make every effort to stop it because there are people like the teenager who are going through an experience that may be causing them to react uniquely. Above all, let us strive to emulate Christ in wisdom, demonstrating it through our words, deeds, and willingness to extend grace to others. With this, Heaven will be pleased with you!
