THE DENTAL TREATMENT
Romans 10:13 – For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (NLT)
Read: Romans 3:21-31, 10:8-13
A sister wanted to straighten her teeth, so she visited a dentist who applied an aligner for four months. This aligner prevented the lady from chewing hard food, but eventually, her teeth aligned properly. After the treatment, the dentist placed a retainer, which no one can see behind the set of her teeth, to keep them in place.
There are a few lessons we can learn from this process. The initial state of the teeth, scattered and uncomfortable, represents man’s sinful nature and the consequences. The dentist symbolises God, who saw the need to save humankind from a corrupt state (Romans 5:1-11). God, therefore, provided an aligner, Jesus Christ, who sacrificed His life to reshape man’s broken condition (John 15:13).
After redemption, the one who has been aligned with Christ and has become a new creature must avoid consuming harmful things that defile, just as the sister refrained from hard food to protect her teeth (1 Peter 2:2, 1 Corinthians 8:9-13). Finally, the retainer represents the Holy Spirit, who directs and keeps us on the right path after the restoration and alignment have taken place (John 14:26).
This is a call to respond, beloved. If you haven’t been saved or have fallen back into sin, as today’s key text reveals, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Today is the day of salvation. Don’t delay! Cry out to the Father to save you. He shall realign you with His agenda and back you with His retainer.
