PRAYER IS COMMUNION
Genesis 3:8a – And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: (KJV)
Read: 1 Peter 5:8
The Bible text for today gives a crucial indication of the essence of human creation. As the verse reads, God came down to the garden seeking to communicate with Adam and Eve. In other words, God created humanity for communion. Therefore, God yearns to commune with His children, and prayer provides the platform for intimacy with God. Prayer enables us to table our requests to God and patiently wait for a response through the help of the Holy Spirit. When we pray, it is important to give room for quietness because God speaks to His children.
Prayer is compulsory and has several implications when we fail to pray. A Christian who does not pray is like a lion without teeth, easily subdued at any moment. People have also made prayer a transaction or a form of bribery to lure God into doing what they want and not what He desires for them. The truth is that prayer is not transactional but relational. It is about fellowshipping with God and discerning His will. Every Christian must feed on prayer to stay in God’s inner circle and to retain the consciousness of Him.
Beloved, stay active through prayer in your communion with God. If Jesus went into secret places to pray, you too could have a place for intercession in your heart and physically (Matthew 26:36). Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and avoid distractions—God shall hearken to your requests from the altar of prayer!
PRAYER
Hymn: Sweet Hour of Prayer – William W. Walford (1845)
1. Father, deliver me from complacency and equip me to pray without ceasing.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Father, please pour fresh oil upon my prayer altar and give me coals to keep it burning.
2. Holy Spirit, save me from the sweetness of sin and set me apart for righteous living.
3. Father, let the prayers of the Church open doors to divine secrets.
