STAND!
Philippians 1:20-24 (21) – For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (NIV)
Read: 1 Peter 4:14
To stand for something is to believe firmly in it, no matter the consequences. Apostle Paul exemplified this throughout his life and ministry. He was an extremist who persecuted Christians until he encountered Christ on his way to Damascus. After his transformation, Paul was equally diligent in his calling despite experiencing several trials. His statement in today’s Bible text evidenced that he stood for God and was sold out for Christ, eventually becoming one of the greatest apostles to live.
In Daniel 3, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego also stood with God in the face of death. They refused to bow to the graven image but boasted in God. The Lord responded by delivering them from the burning furnace and giving them a promotion. There is no way you will stand for God and remain mediocre. No way! It is those who stand for nothing that falls for anything.
Beloved, who and what do you believe in—in God, money, or weapons? Who or what you trust determines your faith and how much you can defend it in difficult times. If you still practice “bread and butter” Christianity, you may not be ready to pay the price for the gospel. For example, when those who know your devotion to Christ mock you and your situation, you should remain faithful to God. Always trust in the Lord, whether He urgently saves you or not—every work together for good for those who love God. What matters is that your reward is eternal; you won’t miss it!
