ARE YOU AMONG THEM?
Luke 23:32-38 (34) – Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice. (NLT)
Read: Romans 1:28; Matthew 12:30
The natural human heart is like that of the Sanhedrin that Stephen addressed in Acts 7:51-53. He said, “You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit?” (v. 51). Truly, a mind that lacks divine presence is full of dirt, addictions, negative mentality, and blasphemy against God. This explains why many struggle to retain Christ’s knowledge and become engrossed in unnecessary life battles.
As accounted for in the Bible text for today, when Jesus was to be crucified, the rulers and the soldiers mocked Him. Before this time, He was cornered and tested several times by the Pharisees, yet what came out of Christ was love. This set of people was part of the people Stephen spoke to in verse 52 of Acts 7. He asked, “Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him.”
Beloved, whatever actions you engage in that negate Christ’s standards terms you as one of those Sanhedrin and places you directly in opposition to the gospel. Repent today! On the other hand, if you are on the receiving end like Jesus and Stephen, whom the world lets their frustration out on because of their faith, remain calm and do what Christ did. Nobody can insult you without your permission—it’s what you allow into your heart that dictates your actions. Don’t join the insensitive generation to water down the victory of the Cross. Allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in you and direct your thoughts so as not to dishonour God.
PRAYER
Hymn: More About Jesus – Eliza E. Hewitt (1887)
1. I repent from my sins and heresy against God and His principles.
2. Father, help me understand the depth of privilege I have as Your child.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Holy Spirit, rest upon me afresh like the day of Pentecost.
2. Spend time to pray in the Holy Ghost. Insist in the place of prayer, and you shall prevail.
WISDOM IS GIFTED TO YOU!
