MINISTRY OF THE WORD AND PRAYER
2 Timothy 3:16 – All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Read: Acts 6:1-7
When the number of disciples increased, there were complaints that certain people were neglected in the daily ministrations. The twelve disciples responded by giving out responsibilities to focus on prayer and the ministry of the word. These men knew the importance of prayer and the word. These two are the propeller and platform for the reign of the Holy Spirit, without whom there is no basis for any form of ministry.
In whatever capacity you serve God, whether in Church or outreach, if you don’t pray and study the Bible as a choir, you’re only entertaining and not ministering to souls. An usher that is not given to prayer, and the word is as good as a traffic warden. As a pastor, Bible study leader, or motivational speaker, if you don’t spend time in prayer and study the scriptures, you’re an ordinary public speaker or a psychologist, not a spirit-led minister.
The children’s department coordinator is only a social worker or nanny, without prayer and study of the Bible. The drama minister is also not different from a Hollywood figure if they don’t pray and study the Bible. If you are an instrumentalist or in the technical unit and deprived of prayer and the word, you’re just a DJ. Dear Church members, if you don’t pray and read the Bible, heretical teachings and false doctrine will lead you astray.
Beloved, regardless of your office, anointing, or standing with God, as read in today’s text, everyone is called to be enriched in the word for sound doctrine, including for effective prayer. The failure to do this means that people and their service in God’s household may result in futility. This is because the foundation for effectiveness (prayer and the word) and for the leading of the Spirit of God is missing!
