SOW THE GOOD: IT WILL COME BACK!
Galatians 6:7 – Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (NIV)
Read: Colossians 3:12–17
Mr Fleming, a poor Scottish farmer, was trying to eke out a living for his family when he suddenly heard a cry from a nearby swamp, so he dropped his tools and ran over. There, he saw a half-sunk boy struggling to free himself and then saved the lad from what could have been a painful death. The next day, the boy’s father, who was an aristocrat, visited Mr Fleming and said, “I want to repay you for saving my son’s life.” “No, I can’t accept any payment,” said the farmer. At that moment, the farmer’s son came to the door. “Is that your son?” asked the aristocrat. “Yes,” Mr Fleming proudly replied. “I’ll give him a good education. If the lad is anything like his Dad, he’ll grow up to become a man you can be proud of.” Said the aristocrat.
In time, the farmer’s son graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London, and became the globally known Sir Alexander Fleming, who discovered penicillin. A few years later, the aristocrat’s son had pneumonia, and guess what saved him? Penicillin! And do you care to know the name of the aristocrat? Lord Randolph Churchill, whose son’s name was Sir Winston Churchill, one of the greatest prime ministers that Great Britain ever had.
What a story! Indeed, no act of kindness is insignificant. This is why Apostle Peter encourages us to make every effort to add goodness to our faith (2 Peter 1:5), because kindness has a way of reaching into a weary heart and making it stronger. Beloved, just as a candle will lose nothing by lighting another candle, give yourself to touching lives and be assured that God has a way of rewarding you. Keep putting out the good—what goes around surely comes around. The Scripture focus for today reveals that your good deeds will reap multiple rewards. Therefore, never look down on anyone except when you’re helping them up. Always be the reason someone is saved and happy daily!
PRAYER
Hymn: Anywhere with Jesus — Jessie B. Pounds (1887)
1. Father, empower me to love and reach out to others.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Thou finger of God! Fight every power that rises against me.
2. This year! My light and glory shall never go dim. I shall shine brighter.
3. Any mouth waiting to laugh my family, nation, the church and me to scorn, be silenced in shame.
ARE YOU SAVED? IF NOT, SURRENDER TO JESUS!
