THE PURPOSE IN YOUR PROFESSION
Matthew 4:19-20 – And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. (KJV)
Read: Luke 5:1-11
In the Bible reading for today, Peter and Andrew struggled at sea until they met Jesus, who instructed them to launch into the deep for a great catch. Christ, therefore, told them to follow Him, and the fishermen immediately obeyed. Take note of Jesus’ words in the key text: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” In other words, since both men’s occupation is fishing, following Christ would not mean a loss of potential. Instead, they can become advanced and use their skills more productively for God’s purpose.
There are people who find it challenging to succeed in their careers. This may be because they are in the wrong occupation or have been underusing their skills and operating based on personal perception. Peter and Andrew had a similar experience. They relied on their fishing expertise until they met Jesus, who transformed their ideology and career into an occupation with eternal value.
Beloved, what this means is that you must identify your purpose and secure God’s backing before embarking on a particular profession. This is because any occupation you have that does not conform to the divine plan for your life is a waste of resources. This is evident in our case study, where Peter and Andrew lost time and strength due to being on the wrong path and not catching a single fish.
Therefore, before taking any action, it is important to pray for discernment to identify a career that aligns with God’s will and agenda. When you secure the profession, as Isaiah 43:7 reveals that God created you for His glory, ensure that you use the work and talents to the glory of the Father. Your reward will be of greater worth than the physical benefits. God bless you!
