LESSONS FROM THE BIRD
Exodus 20:12 – “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. (NIV)
Read: Proverbs 4:20-27
A bird was advised by its parents to join the flock of birds heading for the warmer southern region. But the bird rejected the advice. When winter came, the naughty bird could not cope, and it decided to flee the area. Two hours into migration, the weather worsened, and the bird’s feathers froze. Eventually, the bird fell to the cold ground and began panting for breath when, all of a sudden, a horse came by to poo on it.
The bird was annoyed, but the horse’s poo warmed its wings, and they regained strength. While enjoying the warmth, the bird started singing aloud. As it continued singing, a cat that heard the loud melody took the bird out of the poo and cleaned it. However, just as the bird rejoiced, thinking it had received yet another help, the cat ate it!
Beloved, as read in today’s Bible text, don’t neglect your parents’ advice and the guidance of people who care about your success. This is because simply obeying the parents, elders, and the divine instructions given through the scriptures, the Holy Spirit, and God’s representatives can save you from suffering or destruction (1 Samuel 15:22). Wherever you have disobeyed or despised the path of wise counsel, quickly make amends to enjoy the promise of prosperity and long life.
Finally, remember that not everyone who shits on you like the horse is your enemy, and not everyone who gets you out of trouble like the cat did to the bird is your friend. Be careful and discerning!
