LESSONS FROM THE ONE SAMARITAN
Luke 17:11-19 (16) – He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. (NIV)
Read: Psalms 103:1-5
Today’s Bible text highlights that the only leper who returned to thank God for his healing was a foreigner. The other nine, who were likely to be Jews, were familiar with Jesus and never came back to appreciate their healer.
The Biblical emphasis on the one leper’s locational identity, which is Samaritan, was predicated on the basis that the Jews and Samaritans were historically enemies and wouldn’t get along with each other. Regardless, the cleansed man looked beyond the rivalry and deemed it necessary to return to thank Jesus, a Jew.
The Samaritan’s gesture showed spiritual maturity and a postured heart of gratitude, which qualified him for perfect healing. Beloved, to enjoy perfect breakthroughs, you must set aside all contrary attitudes or negative past experiences and honour God and those who deserve your appreciation.
Another crucial lesson is that you should never allow overfamiliarity to rob you of your divine blessings and human help. Too much familiarity with Jesus prevented the nine lepers from receiving wholeness in health. Beware of getting too familiar with God, His Spirit, or His ministers. Take one step at a time and remain sensitive like the Samaritan did so you can enjoy divine wholeness.
This day, you will reflect on things you took for granted and take steps to thank God for them. By doing these, you will receive the seal of perfection in your blessings. Go ahead and thank the Lord!
