A CHAMPION BY GOD
1 Samuel 2:9 – He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. (KJV)
Read: 1 Kings 19:5-7
A champion is generally a victor. But even more than a champion is a divine champion who conquers with the strength of God and has nothing to fear. The Bible text for today reveals that human strength often fails; therefore, anyone who wants to be a champion with God’s help should never make flesh his backbone. Instead, his hope must lie totally in God’s power.
1 Kings 19:5-7 chronicles the story of Prophet Elijah when he fled from Jezebel to Horeb. The prophet was so distressed that he prayed for God to take his life. However, an angel appeared to encourage Elijah by giving him baked bread and water that he might eat before proceeding on his journey. Elijah eventually conquered his enemies.
Beloved, as you draw closer to the end of the year, what will sustain you is neither your physical skills nor your financial strength. Instead, what will uphold you as you live the life of a divine champion is your dependence on the Almighty. In the same way the angel ministered to Elijah, you need the Holy Spirit to guide and inspire you. You must be intentionally sensitive to his leadership and never take him for granted.
In addition, a champion regularly exercises to keep fit. You should make God your confidence and sharpen your spirit with His word and prayer. Honour Him with your lifestyle, and you will remain a divine champion in spirit with physical manifestation.
