KNOW YOUR GOD!
Matthew 15:8 – “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. (NIV)
When random activities supersede the core purpose, there is bound to be a misalignment. Placing more emphasis on personalities, physical abilities, and religiousness than on the Creator results in spiritual futility. This is why most so-called spiritually active people are often the least beneficiaries of the dividends of serving God.
Modern Christians show off what they are not. People pretend to appear closer to God, but God knows those who are genuinely His own. Many claim to serve and revere God, but their hearts are far from Him. Brethren continue to envy and crush each other, harbour malice, exhibit pride, and show a lack of love and accountability. This is what today’s Scripture exemplifies: that outward appearance and expressions are not enough. Instead, God sees and judges the contents of the heart.
Beloved, this calls for a personal check to see if you are in good standing with God. How consistent is your walk with God and prayer? If there is any inadequacy, the antidote is simply to “Know your God.” This knowledge comes from your thirst for God, Bible study, reliability in prayer, living a holy life, and intentionally relying on the Holy Spirit daily. When you measure up in these things, you won’t fall for the mundane but will have your eyes of understanding opened, as Paul prayed in Ephesus. Enough of the disconnection from God. Know your Father as well as He knows you, because the time will come when He separates His children from impersonators.
