DO NOT BOAST
Proverbs 21:4 – Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin. (NLT)
Read: James 4:6
To boast is to talk with unwarranted pride and self-satisfaction. Most often, those with little or nothing wear the necklace of pride and make the loudest noise. The significant danger of boasting is that it kills potential and falsely magnifies a person’s worth. This is why a boaster lives in obscurity since those who should help would think they are self-sufficient, therefore ceasing to render assistance.
The boastful also exaggerates and sin against God through bragging. As seen in the Bible text for today, pride is a sin, and the worst thing that can happen to a person is divine rejection because God resists the proud. In Daniel 4:28-37, when King Nebuchadnezzar boasted about his achievements, God humbled him by making him an animal for seven years. After this experience, Nebuchadnezzar honoured the Lord.
Beloved, be watchful not to boast about your life or possessions because pride has consequences. On the other hand, it is possible to be proud and not know it. No one can see their own back view except through a mirror. Therefore, you must always examine yourself and your actions to identify where to make amends. You can also have people or a mentor who can be a guide to help you retrace your steps when necessary. Above all, do all it takes to be in harmony with the Holy Spirit. He will deliver you from the ocean of destruction that flows in the corridors of the proud. May the Lord help you to be humble before Him and man so you do not become humbled by Him.
PRAYER
Hymn: Are You Washed? – Elisha A. Hoffman (1878)
1. Holy Spirit, be my mirror and uproot pride from the dictionary of my life.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Chains of profitless labour and disfavour, binding my hands, break by fire!
2. Curses of oppression and struggle, issued against my life and destiny, be nullified by the blood of Jesus!
3. Father, please do new things in my life, family, nation, and Church.
OPPRESSION SHALL BE FAR FROM YOU!
