GOD’S IDENTITY AND MAN’S PURPOSE (Part 2)
2 Corinthians 5:15 – And He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. (NKJV)
Read: Colossians 3:4
Yesterday, we understood that the purpose of man is to satisfy God by doing His will as Christ did. Today focuses on how to do God’s will and live a purposeful life.
Since man possesses God’s image, the divine plan was for God and man to cohabit. However, after the fall of Adam and Eve, God gave Jesus to redeem the world from perdition that man should live a purposeful life till eternity (John 3:16). Therefore, accepting Christ as your Lord and Saviour is the entry-level to God’s will. More so, the Bible text for today gives a deeper revelation to Christ’s death and fulfilling God’s will. The summary is that living for Christ is the root of God’s will.
Let’s trace this back to God’s instruction to man after He blessed them in Genesis 1:28: “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.” This is an embodiment of Christ’s mission. Jesus never lived for Himself but exercised God’s authority over all things and made disciples, of which we are part. In the same way, having God’s image and being redeemed through His Son, you have the life of Christ and should live for Him.
Beloved, when you live for Jesus, you are living for God. But the moment you start living for yourself and crave mundane things, you hinder the will of God. A purposeful life is that of God, which He wants to express through you. Determine to be like Christ, doing what He loves and fleeing what He detests. You will discover that you don’t have to pray for blessings. Instead, they pursue and overtake you simply because you are fulfilling God’s will.
