THE LITTLE THINGS
Luke 17:11-19 (15) – One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” (NLT)
Read: Psalms 34:1
A teacher told her nursery class to draw a picture of anything they were grateful for. While others drew toys and sweets, a boy sketched a hand! This made the entire class laugh because they couldn’t understand why he drew the hand. But when the class teacher asked whose hand it was, the boy whispered, “It’s yours, teacher. You always held my hands and supported me in my learning.” When others focused on the goodies, the boy thought deeply about appreciating the little ways the teacher had helped all the students. What a heartfelt appreciation!
Receiving large gifts or experiencing miracles should not be the sole source of gratitude. Instead, gratitude should be a consistent attitude of the mind. When we examined the actions of the ten lepers in the Bible reading for today, only one person returned to thank Jesus because he knew what it took to get healed. This act of appreciation triggered the perfection of the leper’s healing.
Beloved, don’t take God’s grace for granted, even the minor provisions you enjoy. Things like breathing, thinking, walking, sleeping, friendship, the ability to hunger and thirst, and using the toilet are God’s blessings. Like the nursery schoolboy, be thankful to God and celebrate those who are valuable to your life’s journey. The more you are grateful for the little things, the more you receive from God.
PRAYER
Hymn: Count Your Blessings – Johnson Oatman (1897)
1. Think and write out the little blessings, even as you praise God wholeheartedly.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Father, by Your power, I refuse to embark on a project or journey of no return!
2. Glory and favour of God, envelope and overshadow my life, family, nation, and Church.
3. Every conscious and deliberate boundary set by my ancestry to limit my star, break!
MAKE IT A PRAISE-FILLED WEEK!
