PERSEVERE
Romans 5:3–4 (3) – We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. (NLT)
Read: Acts 24.
There are three general schools of thought that I have observed: “Because I’m born again, I shouldn’t suffer.” “My present suffering is because of my past sins.” “I’m suffering now so I can enjoy life later.” These may be true, but the fact is that trials are part of human existence. Apostle Paul’s experience presents a good example to learn from.
In Acts 24, Paul finds himself imprisoned again. This time, Felix (the governor) seemed to like Paul because he relaxed the rules and even brought his wife to listen to his teaching (vs. 23–24). I could imagine what Paul was thinking at that moment—maybe God had sent a man to free him. However, it turned out that Felix was only interested in collecting bribes. Since he couldn’t achieve his attempt, he left the apostle in jail for two more years.
Beloved, have you faced challenges, prayed, and seemed close to a breakthrough only to have your hopes dashed? This is similar to Paul’s experience, yet he persevered and revealed in today’s Bible reading that challenges are part of the Christian journey because they help develop endurance, character, and hope in God. Whatever your issues are, know that they are meant to bring out the best of God in you. Keep praying and holding on. No matter the condition, God is good! He will never leave you comfortless. Depend on the Holy Spirit to guide you on the path of destiny.
PRAYER
Hymn: Jesus Saves – Priscilla J. Owens (1882)
1. Father, help me carry my cross and stay active, regardless of the situation.
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. The consequences of past sins and ungodly sexual relationships that are battling my life. Mercy of God! Speak deliverance for me.
2. Father, set me free from the satanic yoke, family curses, and the obstacles to my divine purpose (mention).
3. Father, from today on, let my head fit into where You want me to be.
WAIT ON THE LORD!
