STEADFAST PRAYER AND THANKSGIVING
Luke 18:1-8 (3) – In that city there was also a widow who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice.’ (GW)
Read: Psalm 27:14, Isaiah 55:7-13
There was a child who asked for a biscuit from his parent. The father initially felt reluctant, but as the boy pleaded persistently, the man had no choice but to succumb. The boy never stopped showing gratitude—he gave thanks as he ate the biscuit. Without making any additional requests, the child continued to receive more. This is similar to the act of praying. The Bible reading for today illustrates the story of the widow, who needed justice and therefore would disturb the judge, who neither feared God nor man.
One day, the judge said to himself, “If I do not answer this woman, she will keep troubling me.” This judge neither knew God nor cared about the people, yet he was fair to the widow because of her persistence. How much more God, whom Christ affirmed that He would give His people speedy justice when they call (Luke 18:8a).
Beloved, the Lord Almighty knows about your worries, secret tears, prayers, and fasting, and He is working things out! But the question is whether, like the widow, you are persistent enough in prayer. Remember that Jesus also asked if He would find faith on earth upon His return? In other words, only those who have faith and can wait will reap and enjoy the answers to prayers. When you receive the answers, you must constantly thank God, just as the child did. This is because Thanksgiving is the secret to more.
