THE VERY DRY BONES! (Part 1)
Ezekiel 37:2 – And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry (KJV)
Read: Ezekiel 37:1–14
Today’s Bible text emphasises the condition of the bones in the valley. The bones were not just dry but “very dry.” Even though the bones regained their flesh and life, examining what led what was once a great army to this level of dryness is necessary.
Many factors could lead to physical, mental, financial, and spiritual dryness. This devotional focuses on physical and mental dryness. According to Proverbs 17:22, sorrow and sickness can cause physical dryness. It says, “A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.” The enemy uses grief and chronic illness as powerful tools to break the essence of life and diminish an individual’s physical well-being. When a person succumbs to bodily afflictions, it destroys their strength and joy, paving the way for deep problems.
The failure to arrest physical infirmities can lead a fellow to the valley of mental dry bones (fear, depression, and insanity). For example, depression is a state of loss of interest in doing regular activities, thus affecting the mood. In Jesus’ name, I declare to those struggling with depression that the light of God has shone upon your countenance. Aside from this, pride can lead to mental dryness. Daniel 4:33–37 reveals the story of King Nebuchadnezzar, who had his mind taken away and ate grass as an ox. Pride led him into a seven-year exile in the valley of the very dry bones of madness.
Beloved, no matter what led you to the tunnel of your very dry bones, your deliverance is now here. As God told Prophet Ezekiel to prophesy and His breath came into the bones, you will be a prophet to yourself and people in this category. Believe in God’s word and the prompting of the Holy Spirit; as you declare, your stories are changing. However, it would be best if you first repented of self-inflicted affliction and pride.
