BRIDLE THY TONGUE!
Proverbs 21:23 – Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble. (NLT)
Read: Ephesians 4:29
What are the words you frequently speak—are they good or evil? As small as the mouth may look, it can define one’s destiny. This is why today’s Bible reading encourages us to tame our tongues, because words can trigger destruction! In 1953, Derek and Chris bungled a warehouse in Croydon. The police were quickly alerted. Sidney Miles, the policeman, arrested Derek on the ground floor while Chris was busy packing some goods upstairs. As Sidney attempted to capture Chris, Derek shouted, “Let him have it”, and Chris shot the policeman.
Consequently, Derek was hanged for his words, “Let him have it”, while Chris, who pulled the trigger to kill the officer, spent only ten years in jail (Psalms 34:13). Come to think of it! What if Derek meant that Chris should surrender the gun and not purposely instigate his fellow to shoot? Sadly, after several considerations, in 1998, the UK Government pardoned Derek in death, but it was too late!
Beloved, most people are often guilty of idle words. This is very dangerous because words can be interpreted in a variety of ways. We need to consciously guard our thoughts and words so as not to be victims of spoken words. Matthew 12:37 says, “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Therefore, exercise wisdom in speaking, as it will serve as the basis for your judgment. Allow the Holy Spirit to sanction your lips to produce the right fruits in season.
PRAYER
Hymn: More About Jesus – Eliza E. Hewitt (1887)
1. Holy Spirit! Grant me the wisdom to put a guard on my lips.
2. Powers, vowing to arrest me by my words, scatter!
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Cleanse my heart, nation, and Church, Lord, of every corruption and filthiness.
2. Blood of Jesus! Nullify every consequence of any negative word, curse, or action issued by me or against me.
3. Father, please take absolute control of what I think, say, and do!
MINISTER GRACE TO OTHERS! (Colossians 4:6)
