THE WILL OF GOD IN PRAYER
Matthew 6:5-15 (10) – Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (NIV)
Read: Luke 22:42; Psalms 119:89-96
In today’s Bible reading, Christ’s statement of “Your will be done” in prayer shows that the concept of prayer centres around accepting God’s supremacy over personal preferences. Jesus demonstrated submission to God’s will in prayer during His crucifixion. He said, “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.” If Christ had not yielded to God’s plan at Calvary, human redemption would have been a different story today.
Nothing is as good as bowing to God’s will, because the Father’s will takes you to the point where His grace is sufficient for you. In 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, Paul had prayed three times for his persistent problem to cease, but the response he received was “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” For Paul, God’s will was for him to have that unpleasant experience so that he could benefit from the sufficiency of divine grace.
Beloved, when you possess the heart of submission to God’s will, you will not pray selfishly but according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. If there are any ways you have not been sensitive to divine purpose in prayer, ask God to empower you to always pray according to His plan. With this, you will experience God’s speedy action on your requests simply because you are praying His mind into reality.
PRAYER
Hymn: Take My Life, and Let it Be – Frances R. Havergal (1874)
1. Father, please forgive my act of selfishness in prayer.
2. Father, I surrender my life to Your perfect will and wisdom, now and forever!
(MIDNIGHT PRAYER)
1. Father, please prosper the works of my hands according to Your will.
2. Father, silence every unrelenting attack on my life, ministry, and glory.
3. Father, please let Your love flow through my heart, families, communities, and the Church.
RELAX, YOU WILL NEVER BE SHAMED!
